/where am I coming from?

I am in my second semester right now and it is one that is pretty filled with maths, theoretical stuff and alsomst no coding at all. This is my standpoint right now and I did not like it. The semester is quite stresfull though so I really do have to take the time and cut away other stuff to be able to code a little. Don’t get me wrong: I still like my modules and I do have a lot of fun in getting better in statistics or algorithms. I just don’t like that I am not creating code.

/why?

I still found a lot of fun in getting more routine for coding and just sitting down, reading man-pages, getting to know python or in particular customtkinter a little more. Of course I am nowhere near somebody that you could call “good” computer scientist. But nonetheless I did find myself in wanting to go to bed and still thinking about a small project I started. I was thinking about a solution, sat down and found myself at my desk an hour later.
And I do think a big part of this is that I particularly picked out small(!) projects that do fit the timeslot I do have for them pretty well.

/what project to pick?

That is why I am posting this in the first place. I tried picking projects that are not too big. I picked them with the intent of being able to finish them in max 2 weeks in my freetime. I did not want to start the development of a new game that would take me probably years to finish.
Sure I would learn a LOT from that as well. But the danger of it being and abandoned repo in 4 weeks would probably be close to 100% if I am being honest with myself.

/where is the benefit?

This is exactly where the benefit lies for me. Picking a small project, peeking into something new, that gets my attention is just perfect. I am not too frustrated and the problems I run into along the way are not too hard to solve but I still benefit from them - I am actively learning.
For me it just seems quite perfect to pick things, that I know I can finish in a week or two - at least during this stressfull semester. I do have some bigger things in mind but I am purposely postponing these to the end of the year where I should find more time to tackle these!

/projects that worked for me

• qr code generator in python using customtkinter
• webpages that are not too spectacular
• some cli-program for Linux that just does a small thing (monitoring system load)

maybe these projects do grab your attention as well or you do get a better imagination about the size of them.
