/motivation
As I am currently studying CS I did come across HTML, CSS and JavaScript in one of my courses. However it was only a small part of the course and it was rather towards the end, but I still liked it. Because the possibilities
seemed to be endless and I could also design it the way I want to. I know that I do like aesthetic things and I sure do like to create things myself. I did have some time where I - just like almost every other
gamer at my age - tried to become a YouTuber.
It is my dark past but at least it did help me to find some joy in designing, cutting, photography or cinematography. All in all I do think
that I have a lot of fun at just making things look pretty. I still sometimes want to create some videos, so if you want to be noticed,
then take a look at my YouTube.
But coming back to the motivation: I honestly was so hyped about creating something that I can kind of treat like my digital
diary of learning CS while also making it possible for others to read. It just seemed to good to be true so I started to dive right in - and here I am!
/getting used to html and css
In the beginning I was thinking about how to even host a page, because I really wanted it to be publicly available. I came across GitHub Pages, which my brother also uses to host
his blog.
At first I just dove in and wanted to have anything. Even if the look reminded me of something a toddler has drawn - I still liked the fact, that this is the first page I(!) created.
I knew for a fact that I do not want to just mockup a finished template. I wanted to know
that I did do everything myself. That's why I also did not want to use any AI-assistant for the whole blog. Just like I always do when solving things - that's part of my philosophy for learning.
HTML, CSS and JavaScript were totally new for me, but it felt natural. I had a lot of fun of trying out different styles, creating new Elements and looking at the possibilities. Even though I do have to admit that I got lost at
choosing colors that are fitting and tested around with a lot of different options.
A quite cool outcome of this is the possibility to change themes on the main page of the blog. In my opinion this
kind of shows how I will be treating this page in the future. It feels like my own personal playground and lab at the same time. If something comes across my mind and I want to test something out - I'll just put it here.
So after a little while I was quite happy with the landing page and it felt like a good starting point for other things that are more interactive and require something new, because I didn't want to stop learning.
/flex and laying things out
After looking at some other blogs and getting some inspiration on different web pages, I knew I wanted to change the layout of the coming pages to be a little wider in a sense of testing out how to add an extra column.
I wanted to make it look more interesting and figure out how to Layout the x-axis of a webpage more. I wanted to get a feeling for moving elements around left and right and not only top to bottom.
How can I even archieve that? After browsing for a while the video that did help
me the most was this one by ByteGrad.
The flex attribute seemed to be just what I wanted to use. So I tested it out, tried a few different layout variants and then went with the one you are seeing right now. I do like the colors a lot and I did play around with
different attributes and got used to seeing the product when typing the CSS and HTML, which was a huge breaking point for me. Eventually I went with the simple flex-boxes on the left of the post. It sure is simple but
these few boxes gave me a lot of fun and made me understand the concepts more and more.
I feel like I got past the early breaking point of learning a new programming language and became what you could call "more fluid". Even if the pages are still kind of empty I do like it and I will be using up some of the almost infinite space
that the web has for me.
As of now I am very happy with the state of the page and I do think there will be more to come soon enough!
So as of today (9th of April 2026) I am very happy to have started the journey. Setting sail and learning more! I could not be happier to get carried away towards the horizon and beyond.
See you soon!
